Frequently Asked Questions about MyLINE

Carrier Selection Service MyLINE

General Service

Q. What kind of services are MyLINE and MyLINE Plus?

A. These are services that allow you to make calls without having to dial carrier access code numbers by registering the carriers you want to use.
There are two types of services, "MyLINE", which is a telephone carrier selection service, and "MyLINE Plus", which is a fixed telephone carrier service.
You can select and register telephone carriers for each of the four calling categories, which are "Local calls", "Out-of-city calls", "Out-of-prefecture calls", and "International calls".
NTT Communications is one of the carriers you can chose to register for "Local calls", "Out-of-city calls", "Out-of-prefecture calls", and "International calls".
However, if a customer does not register a carrier:

  1. Local calls and "Out-of-city calls" → NTT East and West will be used
  2. Out-of-prefecture calls → NTT Communications will be used

Also, in order to make international calls, customers will need to dial a carrier access code number ("0033", etc.).

Q. Why should I have this service?

A.By using this service, you can skip dialing carrier access code numbers when making calls, which are from three to six digits long, making it easier for you as the customer. Also, the number of digits to be dialed becomes the same for each carrier and this is expected to activate the market and improve service by encouraging fair competition.

Q. How do I make calls after joining MyLINE or MyLINE plus?

A.Customers that register NTT Communications for domestic calls can make calls the same as usual.

When you use your registered telephone carrier:

[For Local Calls]
Local Exchange Number + Subscriber Number (Last four digits)

[For Out-of-City Calls]
Area Code + Local Exchange Number + Subscriber Number (Last four digits)

For international calls:

[When Registered with MyLINE or MyLINE Plus]
Dialing "0033" is not necessary. 010 + Country Code + Area Code + Telephone Number

[When Not Registered with MyLINE or MyLINE Plus]
Carrier access code number "0033"+ 010 + Country Code + Area Code + Telephone Number

Q. What are MyLINE and MyLINE Plus?

A.Registering your telephone service with MyLINE allows you to make all your calls without dialing the designated telephone carrier's access code number.

But, if you are using an ACR enabled telephone, then the ACR phone will automatically choose your telephone company for you even though you are registered for the MyLINE service. If you want to use a specific registered carrier, we recommend that you use MyLINE Plus. MyLINE Plus is recommended for customers who want to use a registered telephone carrier or for those who use a discount service. You can still use your registered telephone carrier even if you use a telephone with an ACR function.
However, if the telephone carrier selected by MyLINE Plus is different from the access code number of the telephone with the ACR function, a guidance message from the registered telephone carrier by MyLINE Plus will be heard while dialing. We recommend that you select NTT Communications and cancel ACR functions.

Q. What are the calling categories?

A.These are divisions of calling areas that need customer registration. The four categories are "Local calls", "Out-of-city calls", Out-of-prefecture calls", and "International calls".

Q. Why do I need to register a telephone carrier for each category?

A.Some telephone carriers provide MyLINE service for all telephone categories, but some provide service for only one category. Therefore, registering for each category allows customers to meet their specific needs.

Q. Can I continue using my current telephone?

A.It is not necessary to change your current telephone.
Please be careful about fraudulent salespersons over the telephone. For example, some may say that in order to use MyLINE service, you cannot use your current telephone. If you have any questions, please ask our company.

Q. What should I do if I am using a PBX, business phone, ACR, or adaptors?

A.If you apply for "MyLINE" carrier selection service, the carrier selected by the ACR function has priority over the registered carrier. If you begin using "MyLINE", we recommend that you stop using the ACR and adaptors or cancel its service.
If you apply for "MyLINE Plus" fixed carrier service, the registered carrier has priority over the carrier selected by the ACR function. However, if the telephone carrier selected by MyLINE Plus is different from the access code number of the telephone with the ACR function, a guidance message from the registered telephone carrier by MyLINE Plus will be heard while dialing. We recommend that you select NTT Communications and stop using or cancel ACR functions.

Q. I have a discount service contract with NTT Communications, so what will happen if I register with other carriers for MyLINE or MyLINE Plus.

A.If you register a carrier for "MyLINE" or "MyLINE Plus" that is not NTT Communications, or if you make a call or connection by dialing an access code number for a carrier that is not of NTT Communications, you cannot receive discount services from our company.
Please keep in mind that even if you do not use NTT Communications for calls or connections, a monthly fixed charge for certain discount services* will be billed.
In addition, if a customer who has a contract for Shabericchi Plus or OCN Shabericchi Plus, and are also registered with NTT Communications for "Out-of-prefecture calls" on "MyLINE Plus" cancels, then a fixed charge will be billed from the next discount calculation period after the cancellation.

Other

Q. How do I cancel ACR (LCR)?

A. For information about canceling ACR, please inquire to the telephone carrier that provides your ACR.
For information about canceling NTT Communications adaptors, please contact our company's Customer Support Center (0120-083928). However, if you register for MyLINE or MyLINE Plus through NTT Communications, you can continue to use your current adapter.

Q. Can mobile phones, PHS, or public telephones be registered for MyLINE service?

A. Mobile phones, PHS, and public telephones cannot be registered for this service. Please dial using the ordinary method.

Q. I can make local calls and domestic long distance calls without MyLINE registration or carrier selection prefix. Why can't I make international calls without selecting a carrier selection prefix?

A. International calls still requires a carrier access code number for each call no matter which carrier you use. If a customer does not register any carrier, a specific carrier cannot be selected automatically in order to ensure fair competition.

Q. Why do international calls require "010"?

A. If you register a telephone carrier with MyLINE for International calls, you can reduce the number of digits you need to dial. However, "010" is necessary in order to identify the number that you are dialing is for overseas.

Q. Why should I register for MyLINE or MyLINE Plus with your company?

A. Our company provides many services including discounts.
In order to benefit most from these services, we recommend that you register with our company.

Q. What is MyLINE Carriers Association?

A. It is an association established by telephone service providers in Japan in order to promote the smooth implementation of priority connection (MyLINE and MyLINE Plus) and to promote fair competition between carriers.
