NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS and TRANSATEL Launch “Cellular SASE for IoT”
Strengthening IoT Device Security Through NTT’s Global MVNO network and Zscaler’s Zero Trust Architecture.
June 15, 2026 - NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS, Inc. (formerly NTT Communications Corporation) and TRANSATEL, an NTT company and global pioneer in cellular IoT connectivity, in collaboration with Zscaler, Inc, are launching “Cellular SASE for IoT,” a new solution for the global IoT market. This is the first solution of its kind offered by a carrier in Japan. The solution combines NTT’s global MVNO TRANSATEL’S global mobile connectivity with Zscaler’s zero trust security1 to provide cloud-based security and flexible connectivity for IoT devices and enterprise mobile endpoints, without requiring conventional VPNs or software agents2 on devices. By using the SIM itself as the foundation for connectivity and security, the solution helps customers strengthen protection while simplifying deployment and operations across borders.
Securing Global IoT Deployments at Scale
As IoT adoption accelerates, enterprises are connecting vast numbers of devices to networks around the world. At the same time, many IoT devices have limited processing power and storage capacity, making it difficult to implement conventional on-device security measures such as threat detection, access control, and vulnerability response. As a result, these devices are increasingly exposed to cyber risk.
Global deployments add further complexity, requiring support for a wide range of device specifications and country-specific communications environments. Traditional approaches - such as deploying VPNs or installing security software on each endpoint- can be difficult to scale effectively. In response, NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS and TRANSATEL are introducing a new solution that enables secure connectivity between IoT devices, cloud environments, and corporate IT systems without relying on software installed on the devices themselves. The solution also supports multi-carrier path redundancy without requiring separate contracts in each country, helping enterprises centrally manage global IoT and IT environments while minimizing security risks and accelerating digital transformation.
A SIM-Based, Zero Trust Architecture for Global IoT
As IoT adoption accelerates, enterprises are connecting vast numbers of devices to networks around the world. At the same time, many IoT devices have limited processing power and storage capacity, making it difficult to implement conventional on-device security measures such as threat detection, access control, and vulnerability response. As a result, these devices are increasingly exposed to cyber risk.
Global SIMs and connectivity management platform
Leveraging TRANSATEL’s global MVNO network, the solution provides seamless, always-on connectivity across more than 200 countries and territories. TRANSATEL’s proven multi-carrier SIM technology enables stable communications for IoT devices worldwide. In addition, a portal for centrally managing SIMs and mobile lines worldwide significantly reduces customers’ operational burden.
Zero trust security
By embedding Zscaler’s Zero Trust Exchange3 platform into the mobile network, the solution delivers threat prevention and access control for internet access - such as firewall protection, URL filtering, and intrusion prevention (IPS)4 - at a level comparable to enterprise IT environments. For private access, all traffic is securely routed through the cloud, helping minimize the attack surface while enabling secure, bidirectional communications between IoT devices and users or servers.
High-quality centralized support
By combining the solution with NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS’s managed services (MSP)5 offering, “X Managed®6” , customers can benefit from high-quality centralized support. As a company certified under Zscaler’s MSSP program7, NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS provides integrated support across both networking and security.
Three Leaders Combining Connectivity, Security, and Integration
- NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS: Overall solution integration, design and implementation support, and high-quality centralized support through managed services.
- TRANSATEL: Global mobile connectivity services and the connectivity management platform.
- Zscaler: One of the world’s largest security clouds and the application of zero trust policies to all SIM-based connections.
“Through our expanded partnership with NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS and Transatel, Zscaler is bringing a cellular security solution to the global IoT market. By combining trusted mobile connectivity with zero trust security, this solution will enable customers to scale deployments under consistent policies, reduce their attack surface, and simplify day-to-day operations.” says Nathan Howe, Vice President, Emerging Technologies, Zscaler, Inc.
Scaling Secure IoT Adoption Across Industries Worldwide
NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS and TRANSATEL, in collaboration with Zscaler, will continue enhancing the functionality of this solution and expanding its geographic coverage in line with the growth of the IoT market. The companies will focus particularly on supporting secure IoT adoption in manufacturing, logistics, energy, and smart infrastructure, helping customers accelerate digital transformation, automation, and global business expansion.
Notes:
(1) Zero trust security is a security concept based on the principle that no access is trusted by default, including access from within an internal network, and that safety is ensured through appropriate verification regardless of where access originates.
(2) A software agent refers to software installed on a device to provide specific management or security functions.
(3) Zero Trust Exchange is Zscaler’s cloud-based cybersecurity platform.
(4) IPS stands for Intrusion Prevention System.
(5) MSP (Managed Service Provider) refers to a provider that offers operation, maintenance, and monitoring services for customer systems such as computers and networks.
(6) “X Managed®” is NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS’s standard managed service offering.
(7) “Zscaler MSSP” certification is granted to companies that meet requirements such as sales achievements, implementation and operational support capabilities, and the availability of certified engineers. This certification provides access to advanced support tools from Zscaler and enables the delivery of higher-quality services.
