NTT Communications Introduces Arcstar Universal One with SDN for Advanced Cloud-based VPN Service
FY2015 service roadmap to transform enterprise networks for the Cloud Era

TOKYO, Japan — May 14, 2015 —NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), the ICT solutions and international communications business within NTT Group (NYSE: NTT), announced today the enhancement concept of it’s enterprise VPN service Arcstar Universal One – virtual private network (VPN) service, available in 196 countries/regions. Furthermore, NTT Com will continue to support business innovation, agility and growth by leveraging –– Software Defined Networking (SDN) technologies.

Enhancement Concept

Based on the following enhancement concepts, NTT Com will make several new product features available during FY2015. While some of these features are first to be commercialized in the industry, with a friendly support of SDN, all services will have self-service features via an automated customer web portal. Enterprises will be able to shorten the provisioning time required to deploy new services, as well as lower operational costs to do so. The overall result is greater control by the enterprise for managing their services.

  1. Multi-cloud
Enterprise customers will use this new function to connect to services on private clouds other than NTT Com’s Enterprise Cloud, such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services. This feature is expected to be available from August 2015.
  2. Asset Light
In 2014, NTT Com has achieved a global launch of Arcstar Universal One Cloud-based Network Services. SDN and complementary technology, Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), has been enabled into NTT Com’s network infrastructure, realizing ’cloud-based’ offerings of network functions such as application acceleration, secure web gateway and SSL VPN. In later FY2015, a new function of mobile application acceleration will be added to the lineup. The service will enable enterprise to accelerate traffic between end-users’ mobile device and cloud or data center hosted applications, optimizing user experience.
  3. Multi-client
Arcstar Universal One Virtual, a virtual network service first launched in Japan, will now be introduced on a global basis. Global customers will use this service for establishing hly secure connections to cloud or corporate data via various devices, such as PCs, smartphones and tablets. Furthermore, this service can establish overlay connections, not exclusive for Arcstar Universal One users, but also enterprise networks using the Internet and/or third-party network service providers. This function will also be a world’s first.
