NTT Com to Launch Premium Data Center in Vietnam

TOKYO, JAPAN -NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) announced today that Global Data Services JSC (GDS), its joint venture with Vietnam Posts & Telecommunications Group (VNPT), the largest telecom in Vietnam, will open a Tier 3-equivalent premium data center in Hanoi on April 12, 2009.

The Thang Long Data Center, the first in Vietnam to be designed and developed with advanced Japanese technology, will satisfy the needs of multinational companies by leveraging VNPT’s ample domestic network and NTT Com’s extensive, high-quality international network, as well as its expertise in designing and operating global data centers.

The new center fully complies with NTT Com’s high standards for uniform, world-class data-center services, facilities and operations. The standards, which cover a wide range of conditions amounting to some 130 items, are closely aligned with those of globally recognized organizations, including the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) , The Uptime Institute, Inc. (TUI) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE).

The expanding business of multinationals in Vietnam has sharply raised the need for local back-up facilities, such as data centers, to retain business continuity. At the same time, the increasing penetration of the Internet in Vietnam has intensified the demand for data centers as communication platforms for stable Internet business.

The Thang Long Data Center will provide wide-ranging services, including server co-location, mail hosting, web hosting and other offerings tailored to specific needs, enabling customers to streamline operations and reduce IT costs. Customer support will be provided in English, Japanese and Vietnamese.

The Tier 3-level data center has extensive redundancy for commercial power supply, air conditioning, UPS, and electricity generation and distribution, with no single point of failure. Stable power supply and air conditioning are ensured during power outages, which occasionally occur in Vietnam.

Safety measures cover natural disasters and fire, and security measures include a facility access management system, surveillance cameras and rack-key management. Network equipment and servers are fully monitored, and power and air-conditioning systems are checked regularly for maintenance.

The Thang Long Data Center’s reliable communication services will be backed by redundant backbone and access lines, as well as connectivity for multiple carriers and Internet service providers as required by customers.

For systems that incorporate data centers as one element, NTT Communications (Vietnam) Ltd., NTT Com’s local wholly owned subsidiary, will collaborate with GDS to offer comprehensive planning, design, maintenance and consultation covering total system integration and solutions.

GDS is also preparing to launch a data center in Ho Chi Minh City.
