How to Use Nationwide-use Emergency Voice Mail

Users first dial 171 and then follow the recorded instructions in order to record or hear messages.


To Record a Message:

1) Dial 171

The following instruction will be announced:
This is the Nationwide-use Emergency Voice Mail Center. To record a message dial 1, to hear a message dial 2, to record a message with identification number dial 3, and to hear a message with identification number dial 4.

2) Dial “1” to record message

The following instruction will be announced:
Person in disaster area, please dial your home phone number or the telephone number of a person in the disaster area you wish to reach beginning with area code.
Person outside of disaster area, please dial phone number of the person in the disaster area beginning with area code.

3) Dial your home phone number or the telephone number of a person in the disaster area you wish to reach (dial area code first)

4) Record message within 30 seconds


To Hear a Message:

1) Dial 171

2) Dial “2” to hear the message

The following instruction will be announced:
Person in disaster area, please dial your home phone number or the telephone number of a person in the disaster area you wish to reach beginning with area code.
Person outside of disaster area, please dial phone number of the person in the disaster area beginning with area code.

3) Dial your home phone number or the telephone number of a person in the disaster area you wish to reach (dial area code first)

4) Messages will be played in order from newest to oldest
