NTT Com to Offer Anti-DDoS Services for Global IP Network
|
TOKYO, JAPAN NTT Communications (NTT Com) announced today new DDoS Countermeasures to help customers protect their Internet systems against distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. The countermeasures consist of two separate but complimentary services: DDoS Detection, which starts November 1, and DDoS Mitigation, which starts by the end of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2006, both in Japan.
DDoS Detection identifies attacks by analyzing the IP headers of packets transiting through NTT Com Global IP Network. If a malicious attack is detected, an immediate alert is issued to the customer.
DDoS Mitigation blocks malicious attacks when anomaly traffic is detected at the edge of NTT Coms protection system, while normal traffic continues to access the customers network (see attachment).
NTT Com confirmed its solutions for DDoS detection and mitigation through a series of successful trials of its DDoS attack-prevention system conducted from February.
As a result of the new DDoS Countermeasures, customers of the NTT Com Global IP Network Transit Service and Collocation Transit Service will benefit from advanced anti-DDoS solutions without having to make large investments in equipment, and with large savings in time and manpower.
DDoS attacks employ compromised systems to maliciously attack a specified website (server), resulting in denial of service for users of the targeted server. Attacks have become so sophisticated that they represent a threat to the overall stability of the Internet. Particularly problematic is the existence of botnets or networks of home computers infected programs that secretly direct the computers to join up with other similarly infected computers online to conduct malicious attacks. DDoS attacks by botnets had been difficult to detect and effectively counteract, until now.
