NTT Communications to Launch
First International IP-VPN Service(MPLS Type) With China

NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) announced that it would introduce China's first international IP-VPN service(MPLS Type) in alliance with the Beijing Telecom Corporation (BTC), starting today.
The Arcstar Global IP-VPN service uses multi-protocol label switching (MPLS)* technology to create high-speed global IP private networks featuring high security and low costs.

NTT Com first introduced the service on January 23, 2001 and now provides it to multinational corporations in 53 countries.

The service is expected to help meet the growing needs for network capabilities to and from China. The launch is particularly timely in view of the increasing number of multinational corporations that are setting up operations in China as a result of the country's acceptance into the World Trade Organization late last year.

NTT Com already provides network and system integration services in China. In 1998, the company's predecessor established two joint ventures in the country: Beijing Telecom NTT Engineering Co., Ltd. (BNTE), formed with BTC, and Shanghai NTT Telecommunications Engineering Co., Ltd., formed with Shanghai Telecom Corporation (STC). The two firms currently provide system and network integration services to more than 300 firms. NTT Com has also partnered with the China Telecom Group, including BTC, STC and Guangdong Telecom Corporation (GTC), to provide international telephone, global leased-line, global frame-relay and global ATM services in China.

The number of China-related matters has greatly increased. In response, NTT Com set up a "China Business Promotion Office" on March 1, 2002 to provide customers with a quick-response consultation service with accurate information on all matters related to Chinese telecommunications.

*MPLS: Technology that sets protocols and other standards for high-speed label switching in large networks; enables construction of IP-VPNs that use labels, not IP addresses, to determine destinations.
