(Project overviews)

1) Next generation Internet protocol: IPv6 service (*3)
The study pursues problems caused when Asian Internet service providers start Ipv6 services, and aims to assist prompt introduction of each AMF member's services.

2) Smart Card (IC Card) platform (*4)
The theme of this study is aimed at solving the problems supposedly caused when multi-purpose smart card technologies and telecommunication services are combined and provided in Asia.

3) Multi-Asian language machine translation service (*5)
The study on Multi-Asian language machine translation services plans to find solutions for implementation of the service on the network and searching for opportunities for implementing this service.

NTT Com will further develop these themes together with the other AMF members and will continue to contribute to the creation of new Internet business in Asia.

*1 A non-profit organization created to promote the acceptance and implementation of advanced telecommunications, and carry out research to provide a better Internet business environment in Asia. It was established in June 1997, and comprises 47 members, including members of the NTT Group and other leading telecommunications organizations in Asia.

*2 A contest aimed at inviting ideas to develop e-Communities where people store and exchange information, and supporting leaders who develop e-Communities.

*3 A next generation Internet Protocol. This will enable dramatic widening of the scope of its application compared to the present IPv4 and will be applied to, for example, digital electric appliances such as TVs, air conditioners, refrigerators, automobiles and mobile phones. Furthermore, the functions of IPsec, packet encoding and increased security, as well as automatic network set up are added and are expected to broaden the possibilities of Internet business.

*4 Known as IC Card in Japan. It is a credit card-sized plastic card, installed with IC chips as CPU, memories and security circuits. There are 2 types of cards; contact and contactless.

*5 One example of the Multi-Asian language translation system is the Japanese/English/Malay translation system that was developed by NTT-MSC provided on www.arc.net.my.
