FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NTT Communications
Launches Hong Kong's First
IPv6 Connectivity Service

NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) announced today that it will launch Hong Kong's first IPv6 (Internet protocol version 6) connectivity service starting today. The service will be provided by NTT Com affiliate, HKNet.

Since obtaining management custodianship of official IPv6 addresses (TLA registry)*1 as Japan's first commercial provider in 1999, NTT Com has been constructing a global IPv6 network that bridges Japan, the United States and Europe. Since December 2000, NTT Com has been trial testing an IPv6 service in Hong Kong that connects NTT Com with HKNet.

The connection of NTT Com's global IPv6 network and HKNet's local IPv6 network will provide users in Hong Kong with high-quality IPv6 connectivity. Also, HKNet can provide IT firms with optimal IPv6 solutions that integrate with next-generation network technology such as 3G mobile and WAP, for which interest is high in Hong Kong.

HKNet will offer IPv6 Tunneling Service*2 (trial package and solution package). Options including IPv6 web hosting, co-location and server bundling service, which comes with ADSL access, also will be available. (For more info, please visit. www.v6.hknet.com)

Customers of the HKNet-IPv4*3 access service can access the IPv6 network for free during a trial period lasting until the end of March 2002.

In Japan, NTT Com has been providing commercial IPv6 gateway service from April 2001 and commercial IPv6 tunneling service via OCN from June 2001. In the United States, Verio and NTT MCL (Multimedia Communications Laboratories) have been providing trial IPv6 connectivity as has NTT Europe in Europe. HKNet has followed suit and it is the second IPv6 offering in Asia following OCN.

By relying on its global networks, NTT Com will acquire the technical know-how needed to provide its customers with the kinds of advanced services they will need in the future.

Notes:

*1 TLA registry (Top Level Aggregation registry):
Custodianship that allows an entity to reassign or reallocate the address space allocated by APNIC*4 to ISPs and companies. The IPv6 address space is coordinated by the IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) and NTT Com has obtained approval of TLA registry from APNIC, a regional Internet registry (IR) with management authority delegated by the IANA. NTT Com is Japan's first commercial Internet service provider with custodianship to assign official addresses. TLA registries perform roles and bear responsibilities, which are analogous and consistent with those of the regional IR within their designated network services and infrastructure.

*2 IPv6 Tunneling Service(IPv6 over IPv4 Tunneling):
Provides IPv6 connectivity by using standardized technology that encapsulates IPv6 packets within IPv4 packets for transmission by tunneling through domestic IPv4 networks.

*3 HKNet-IPv4 Access Service:
IPv4 leased-circuit services, unlimited ADSL service

*4 APNIC (Asia Pacific Network Information Center):
One of the three regional Internet registries worldwide that allocates Internet protocol, addresses and other Internet resources. It managed IPv6 in the same way. APNIC has jurisdiction over the Asia-Pacific region.
