NTT Communications to Establish Joint Venture Company
with Shin Corporations in Thailand

 

NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) announced today that NTT Com and Shin Corporations Public Company Limited (SHIN), a Thai telecom conglomerate, have agreed to establish a joint venture company in February for data center services in Thailand.

Each partner will hold a 47.5% stake in the joint venture, while Saha Pathana Inter-Holding Public Company Ltd. (SPI) and its subsidiary, will hold a 5% stake (see Attachment). The joint venture will be capitalized at 630 million baht (approx. 1.72 billion yen), of which NTT Com will invest 300 million baht (approx. 820 million yen). NTT Com will also invest 200 million baht (approx. 550 million yen) and take a 40% stake in Shineedotcom Company Ltd., a subsidiary of SHIN.

Thailand, which hosts a large number of Japanese companies, is critical to NTT Com's expansion in Asian IP businesses. NTT Com and SHIN, a leading company in Thailand's mobile, satellite and multimedia communications industries, will mutually benefit from their prompt entry into the data center business field.

The joint venture will develop data center services, and Shineedotcom will mainly provide web development, consulting, and e-Commerce services.

NTT Com, with Verio Inc., now is promoting a global data center service, and today's announcement represents a continuation of NTT Com's global data center service strategy. NTT Com will have over 100 data centers in the United States, Europe and Asia. With SHIN as a key partner, NTT Com will offer a comprehensive IP services, which includes not only data center services but also ASP and other services in Thailand. NTT Com will have board members at the joint venture company and Shineedotcom as well as send staff members to develop joint marketing strategies and other services.
