NTT Com to Launch
International Prepaid Cards and Credit-Card Calls

NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) today announced that it will begin from November 10 two new international telephone services: prepaid calling cards and credit-card calls.

The prepaid calling cards (officially: NTT Communications World Prepaid Card) can be used to call from Japan to 232 countries and regions, as well as from 20 principal foreign countries and regions to Japan. It can also be used to dial from most of these 20 countries and regions to any of the other 232 countries and regions (Attachment 1). The cards are usable from most phones in Japan and are effectively cheaper than dialing direct via NTT Com (card selling for 1,000 yen has actual value of 1,110 yen, etc.).

Three types of prepaid cards will be available:

In Japan, the cards can be used from general telephones including ISDN, public phones (except for some types), and cellular/PHS mobile phones including those not registered for international direct dialing.

When dialing from Japan, the charges are the same as when using NTT Com’s international direct dialing service, and dialing Brazil or Peru is actually cheaper.* The same rates are applied for calls from public phones.

The cards will be sold at convenience stores and NTT Com vending machines in airports and hotels. For details, call 0120-535603 (24-hour toll free call in Japan).

Credit-card dialing (NTT Communications International Credit Call Service) will enable callers to use their credit cards for international phone calls. Like the prepaid calling cards, the credit card dialing service is available for calls from Japan to 232 countries and regions, as well as calls from 20 principal foreign countries and regions to Japan. It is also usable from most of these 20 countries and regions to any of the other 232 countries and regions (Attachment 1).

It also can be used in Japan from general telephones including ISDN, public phones (except for some types), and cellular/PHS mobile phones including those not registered for international direct dialing. The charges are the same as when using NTT Com’s international direct dialing service, and dialing Brazil or Peru with a credit card is actually cheaper*. The same rates are applied for calls from public phones.

Credit cards that can be used for the service include the NTT Group Card, Visa Card, MasterCard, JCB, DC Card, UC Card, Million Card, Bank Card, Nicos Card, Saison Card, Daiei OMC Card, Diners Club Card, and others. Some cards are not accepted. For details, call 0120-535603 (24-hour toll free call in Japan).

* For both services, dialing to Japan from another country costs the same as calling that country from Japan. The cost of calling from one foreign country to another (country “A” to country “B”) is calculated by adding the cost of calling from Japan to country “A” and from Japan to country “B.”
