NTT Com to Open Data Center in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

NTT Communications(NTT Com) will open its premium-level Ho Chi Minh City Data Center, the company's second data center in the rapidly growing Vietnamese market, in Ho Chi Minh City during the winter of 2011.

Global Data Service JSC (GDS), a joint venture between NTT Com and the government-owned Vietnam Posts & Telecommunications Group, the largest telecom in Vietnam, will construct and operate the facility.

NTT Com opened its first Vietnamese data center, the Thang Long Data Center, in Hanoi in April 2009. GDS operates the facility.

Both Ho Chi Minh City Data Center and Thang Long Data Center are designed for full compliance with NTT Com's high standards for uniform, world-class data-center services, facilities and operations. Covering a wide range of some 360 operational items, the standards are closely aligned with those of globally recognized organizations, including the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), The Uptime Institute, Inc. (TUI) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE).

Ho Chi Minh City, the country's largest urban center with a population of 7.12 million, continues to grow and develop as people from around the nation are attracted to job opportunities in the city. On a broader nationwide scale, Vietnam, already one of Asia's core production bases, is now seeing its domestic market potential expand, as the country's population continues to grow and purchasing power further rises. Following the establishment of a manufacturing base for exports, the Vietnamese economy is now developing service, finance and insurance sectors, as well as manufacturing targeted at growing domestic demand.

Companies with domestic sales networks are increasingly demanding solutions requiring data centers, such as hosted servers and secure remote access to corporate networks. With the coming addition of a second premium data center in the country, NTT Com expects to help these companies maintain stride with the country's dash to greater economic progress.

Tier-1 Global IPv6/IPv4 Transit Service in Vietnam

NTT Communications (NTT Com) and the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) jointly announced an agreement to cooperate in providing Internet service providers (ISPs) and Internet content providers (ICPs) in Vietnam with global access via NTT Com's Tier-1 network, beginning no later than the end of June.

NTT Com will work with local partners to provide direct connection to NTT Com's Tier-1 network via VNNIC-prepared infrastructure. The result will give ISPs and ICPs a new option for providing customers with enhanced, low-latency Internet environments and robust connection to content and services worldwide. NTT Com's Tier-1 IP backbone network offers direct connections to ISPs in more than 150 countries.

The collaboration also will enable VNNIC, an IPv6 facilitator, to provide companies in Vietnam with IPv6/IPv4 dual-stack connectivity to the world-class Tier-1 IPv6 network powered by NTT Com. Strengthened development of IPv6 in Vietnam will represent an important milestone in the ongoing global effort to move beyond the limitations of IPv4 technologies.
