NTT Communications Group Releases 2008 CSR Report

TOKYO, JAPAN - NTT Communications (NTT Com) announced today that it has released its annual report on corporate social responsibility (CSR) covering activities carried out by the NTT Communications Group in fiscal 2007.

The NTT Communications Group CSR Report 2008 focuses on how the organization contributed to society, helped to protect the global environment and demonstrated respect for its employees. The report follows the guidelines issued by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), a non-profit organization certified by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

A feature article explains the various programs that were implemented to establish and deepen CSR awareness among employees, such as cleaning up walking paths on Mt. Fuji and reviving Japan’s traditional terraced-paddy agrarian culture. Also covered are environmental measures implemented at the company’s new office in Hamamatsucho, Tokyo, steps taken to improve the working environment for NTT Com employees, efforts to create a more diverse corporate culture and activities carried out in support of the G8 Summit held in Toyako, Hokkaido. The report includes a discussion between employees and Senior Executive Vice President and CSR Director Kanae Tamura regarding how to foster stronger understanding between the company and its varied stakeholders.

CSR indices and numerical data are provided wherever possible to strengthen the credibility of the report. In addition, Mariko Kawaguchi, a senior analyst at Daiwa Institute of Research. writes about her third-party opinions of the group’s CSR activities.

The printed version of the report incorporates a universal design certified by the non-profit Color Universal Design Organization, ensuring that colors and designs can be easily recognized by the widest possible range of people, including those with color-vision disabilities. Environmentally friendly ink was used, and content was summarized with a view to reducing paper consumption for production of the hardcopy report. The online version provides fuller content, including more detailed information and figures.

The Japanese version of the report was made available online (www.ntt.com/csr) today, and the print version will be issued on October 29. The English version will become available both in print and online in late December.
