NTT Com Releases Traffic Analysis System for Operators

TOKYO, JAPAN - NTT Communications (NTT Com) today began offering a traffic analysis system for IP network operators in Japan that detects distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, and assists in defending against them.

The system, named Traffic Analysis Tools, monitors network traffic to detect and report traffic anomalies to the network operator in Japanese on a dedicated web portal, where the operator can also configure a specific defense system. In addition, Traffic Analysis Tools can report AS numbers, IP addresses, port numbers and interfaces to the network operator. The report can be saved as a CSV data file.

NTT Com launched the system to meet the growing demand for attack countermeasures among Internet service providers and data center operators as the number of reported DDoS attacks have been increasing as part of a long-term trend. The Metropolitan Police Department reported 12,000 cases of DDoS attacks in Japan in 2007 alone.

Traffic Analysis Tools will enable network operators to monitor up to 100 routers simultaneously and analyze details of DDoS attacks. Since the user-friendly system is designed for practical use, trials showed that it will drastically reduce the operation workload for the detection and defense of traffic anomalies by 75% and traffic analysis by 90%.

Traffic Analysis Tools represents the first attempt to implement a part of a new, more stable operation system that NTT Com is currently co-developing with NTT Information Sharing Platform Laboratories.

NTT Com is planning to provide the system to customers overseas as well.
