Mail-Tsu, NTT Com's service for short message service (SMS) communication between mobile phones in Japan and China will add Chinese-to-Japanese translation effective August 29. Mobile phone users in China will be able to compose SMS messages in chinese and the receiver in Japan will receive the message in Japanese as an email (SMS cannot be sent between the two countries). The Mail-Tsu service already offers translation of Japanese email to Chinese SMS, and the conversion of characters in Japanese-to-Japanese and Chinese-to-Chinese messages, which eliminates garbled text due to certain incompatibilities between Japanese and Chinese mobile systems.
