NTT Com to start Earthquake Early Warnings for Corporations

NTT Com will start a commercial service to send Earthquake Early Warnings, providing advance announcement of the estimated seismic intensities and expected arrival time of principal motion via IPv6 multicast for NTT East and West FLET’S users beginning July 1, 2007. This service is offered in conjunction with the Japan Meteorological Agency. As soon as an earthquake has occurred, the agency calculates the estimated magnitude by wave form data observed by seismographs located near the epicenter and predicts when the earthquake will affect outlying areas.

NTT Com will provide the earthquake early warning services to companies, government agencies and other organizations authorized by the Japan Meteorological Agency, enabling them to take safety measures such as controlling elevators and trains. NTT Com is aiming to expand the usage of this service for household users after October 1.
