Nippon Telegraph and Telephone West Corporation (NTT West) and the six NTT West group companies have agreed to transfer their four Internet service provider (ISP) businesses to NTT Com, which will consolidate them into its own OCN Internet access service to improve service quality. NTT West, its group companies and NTT Com have been working together to provide more convenient services since parent company Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) highlighted this goal in the November 2005 roadmap for its medium-term business plan, a document known officially as “Promoting NTT Group’s Medium-Term Management Strategy.”
The four ISP businesses to be transferred to NTT Com are Vipalette (owned by NTT West-Hokuriku Corporation); QUOLIA (NTT West-Shikoku Corporation); MEGAX (jointly owned by NTT West-Kyushu Corporation, NTT West-Nakakyushu Corporation and NTT West-Minamikyushu Corporation); and Tontonme (NTT West-Okinawa Corporation).
NTT Com will take over the MEGAX and the Tontonme businesses on August 1, 2007 and the Vipalette and the QUOLIA businesses on September 1, 2007. No immediate changes are planned regarding the terms and conditions of subscriber contracts currently in force.
