NTT Com announced today that it will start providing free connectivity trials for a new end-to-end communication management technology, conformed to the technical specification released by Ubiquitous Open Platform Forum (UOPF). The technology is developed based on m2m-x ("machine-to-machine communication for anything, anyplace or anytime") -which is integrating SIP and IPsec, was proposed by NTT Com. The technology has been developed in accordance with specifications formulated by UOPF, established by a group of 14 ISPs and electronics companies whose goal is to wed broadband communication with information appliances in a secure, user-friendly environment. NTT Com will begin m2m-x trials for interested companies starting today.
NTT Com also announced that it has developed a compact adaptor based on the m2m-x by using a FPGA* board. The adaptor can achieve transmission speeds comparable to fixed-line connections and supports IPv6, IPsec and SIP technologies. NTT Com is aiming to achieve the size of a standard business card case (48mm x 87mm x 23.5mm), compliant with UOPF specifications. The company will continue working with equipment makers to develop practical applications for the adaptor, to realize m2m-x connections and to achieve remote control for office automation equipments and home appliances.
*: FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) is a gate array where the logic network can be programmed into the device after its manufacture. An FPGA consists of an array of logic elements, either gates or lookup table RAMs, flip-flops and programmable interconnect wiring.
