NTT Com Joins Next-Generation Network Field Trial

NTT Com announced today it has joined a one-year next-generation network (NGN) field trial organized by NTT, NTT East and NTT West.

NTT Com will test a High-Definition Internet protocol television (IPTV) Service, and feasibility study for a network-to-network interface (NNI) connection between NGN and OCN backbone networks.

In the High-Definition IPTV Service trial, NTT Com and NTT Cyber Solutions Laboratories are providing a platform to broadcast High-Definition contents offered by various content providers. The contents delivery platform supports NGN's QoS function, and uses H.264 codec in order to transmit high-quality video with less bandwidth compared to conventional broadband networks.

The platform enables content multi-casting to multiple users simultaneously. It also offers video on demand and program-related services, such as online shopping, using metadata technology.

NTT Com will work with NTT Cyber Solutions and content providers to develop advanced NGN services that will, for example, enable IPTV users to retrieve archived TV programs from databases, and advertisers to automatically provide commercials that match each viewer's age and gender.

The demonstration is located in the NGN field trial "NOTE" Otemachi showroom on the 1st/2nd floor of the West Tower of Otemachi First Square (at 1-5-1 Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) and "NOTE" Umeda showroom at Osaka: Diamor Osaka (at Diamond Underground Shopping Arcade at Osaka Station, Umeda 1-chome, Kita-ku, Osaka).
