"Hikari" Optical Fiber Network Users Exceed One Million
|
TOKYO, JAPAN NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) announced today that subscribers to its "Hikari" optical fiber network reached about 1.06 million as of the end of February.
Subscriptions increased rapidly last year, rising by 50%, from 520,000 to 750,000, in just the March to September half-year period. The increase reflected the strong demand for higher network speeds required to fully enjoy video, audio and other broadband content.
Hikari users also appreciate the 24-hour helpdesk, security measures such as virus checks, and countermeasures to filter spam mail.
Users find the high-speed Hikari service especially suited to NTT Coms "OCN Theater" on-demand video service, "Dotphone Personal" IP telephone service with videophone, and IPv6 compatible services, "OCN IPv6".
NTT Coms OCN-brand ISP menu also includes ADSL service, which currently has about 2.6 million users.
