TOKYO, JAPAN - NTT Communications (NTT Com) received awards for Best Global Carrier and Best New Service during the sixth annual World Communication Awards held in London on October 11, 2004.
The World Communication Awards recognize outstanding achievements in the telecommunications industry. More than 50 of the world's leading carriers and vendors vied for the prestigious honors, which are awarded to a select few number of telecom carriers in eleven different categories.
NTT Com beat out other global companies including AT&T, BT Global Services, Infonet and MCI to earn the coveted top spot in the prominent category of Best Global Carrier. NTT Com's achievement represents the first time that an Asian carrier has won in this category.
In granting the award to NTT Com, WCA highlighted the following company attributes: 1) provision of MPLS IP-VPN service to multinational companies, 2) extension of network coverage to 144 countries, 3) high-capacity tier 1 IP backbone, 4) high rates of customer satisfaction and 5) continuing stable financial statements. David Molony, Editor in Chief of Total Telecom, commented that "NTT Com is always looking for solutions. This was clearly expressed in their entries for the WCA."
In addition, NTT Com won the top prize in the category of Best New Service for its provision of IPv6 / IPv4 Dual Service. Judges noted that the service is "potentially important for the entire telecom industry," especially since "NTT Com is ahead of the game."
These awards also follow those earned by NTT Com in 2002 for "Best Technology Foresight" for its IPv6 service, as well as "Best Regional Carrier - Asia Pacific."
