NTT Com Strengthens Arcstar Global Network Services with Enhanced Customer Support and Disaster Recovery Functions

TOKYO, JAPAN—NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) announced today that it will add new functions for alert notification and access-line switching for its Arcstar Global Network Services starting September 9, 2003. These functions will minimize the impact of natural disasters and local network malfunctions on the client’s global network.

Both functions will be offered to users of NTT Com’s corporate data communication services, Arcstar Global Network Services including, Arcstar Global Bandwidth, Arcstar Global ATM, Arcstar Global Frame Relay, Arcstar Global IP-VPN, and Arcstar Global e-VLAN.

Alert Notification
Any errors detected by NTT Com in the client’s global network are relayed to the client on a real-time basis as an alert via the web. This renders the client privy to the same timely information as that immediately available to the telecom carrier. Information given includes the time of the error, the time of updated error status, and the switching location where the problem was detected. To ensure data security, clients need an ID and password to access this web-based information.

This function is best suited for clients operating their own network operation centers, desiring prompt network information 24/7 all year round.

The charge is US$850 (100,000 Yen) per month per ID and password combination. The feature will be available in 82 countries and regions (see Attachment 1).

Access-Line Switching
This function supports clients operating backup centers in case of natural disaster or blackout. At such times, after being contacted by the client, NTT Com switches the access-line termination location from the disaster site to a backup center. Available access-line speeds range from 64K to 150 Mbps.

The charge is US$85 (10,000 Yen) per month per access line (excluding access-line charges). The feature will be available in 14 countries and regions (see Attachment 2).
