NTT Com to Expand IPv6 Service Coverage
|
TOKYO, JAPANNTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) announced that it will expand coverage of its IPv6 service to include Australia, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan and the U.S. starting from today. Until now, the service was offered only to ISPs, corporate users and research centers in Japan, Malaysia and Europe.
IPv6 Gateway was launched in April 2002 as Japan's first commercial pay-based IPv6 service. It provides direct connection to the NTT/VERIO Global IPv6 Backbone, offering IPv6 Internet access by transmitting specifically IPv6 packets on leased circuits.
NTT Com has been playing a leading role in enhancing the quality and convenience of IPv6 connectivity. In September 1999, NTT Com obtained management custodianship of official IPv6 addresses (sTLA registry*) to become the first commercial provider in Japan. This was followed by construction and launch of the NTT/VERIO Global IPv6 Backbone, a commercial IPv6 backbone operated jointly by NTT Com and Verio that spans Japan, Europe and the U.S. After its successful launch in Japan and Malaysia, the IPv6 Gateway Service was introduced to Europe in February 2003 by NTT Europe, a wholly owned subsidiary.
Expansion of the service to include the U.S., Asia and Oceania enables ISPs to provide high quality IPv6 services in local areas and makes it possible for corporate users and research centers to conduct research and development globally.

*sTLA (sub-Top Level Aggregation) registry is an IPv6 address management custodianship given to ISPs by Regional Internet Registries that manage Internet resources, including IP addresses.
