NTT Com to Offer Hotspot Global Broadband Roaming Service Worldwide
|
TOKYO, JAPANNTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) announced today that it will begin offering Hotspot Global Broadband Roaming Service from April 21, providing users with wireless broadband Internet access worldwide. The introduction marks Japan's first global broadband roaming service by a wireless LAN operator.
Launched in May 2002, NTT Com's Hotspot service was previously only available in Japan. As an optional feature of Hotspot, the new global wireless LAN service will be provided in partnership with major roaming operator iPass Inc.
NTT Com's Hotspot service users overseas will be able to connect to the Internet via iPass wireless LAN access points by simply using their Hotspot user ID and password. iPass access points are available in 1,000 locations, such as airports and hotels, in 10 countries, including Argentina, Australia, Denmark, Japan, Hong Kong, Mexico, Singapore, Spain, the U.S. and the U.K. Through this partnership, Hotspot users will be able to connect from more than 1,450 wireless LAN access points in Japan and abroad (as of April 1, 2003).
In addition, users of Internet service providers (ISPs) that have contracts with iPass will also be able to utilize NTT Com's Hotspot access points. (See www.ipass.com for list of ISPs.)
Global Broadband Roaming Service will be available to Hotspot users on monthly flat-rate subscription plan and the roaming fee will be charged at 37 yen per minute.
