UN-Awarded TrustSg Program Deploys NTT Com Solution

A public service aimed at enhancing the reliability and acceptance of e-commerce was recently awarded the United Nations Public Service Award in the Improvement of Public Service Results Category. NTT Com, through NTT Singapore, has been providing the technological solution for this public service since April 2002.

The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) received the UN award for its role in establishing the industry-led National Trust Council (NTC) and the TrustSg Program. The program is a nationwide trust-mark initiative designed to ensure safe online transactions and boost consumer and retailer confidence in e-commerce. Under the TrustSq Program, the NTC authorizes pre-qualified trust-mark providers, associations and other organizations to award the TrustSg seal to e-businesses that adhere to sound business practices based on the program's core principles.

Serving as the foundation of the technological solution is the OnlineTrust authorization system developed by NTT Com's Innovative IP Architecture Center. The OnlineTrust system enables online shoppers to quickly and easily confirm a site's approval status simply by accessing the site. Online merchants must first comply with approval criteria and standards before they can display the TrustSg seal on their website. When consumers visit an approved website, they can also click the TrustSg seal to verify that the merchant is indeed TrustSg-approved and view more details about the vendor.

NTT Com's OnlineTrust solution ensures that the seal is given only to trustworthy e-businesses that adhere to the TrustSg standards, thereby instilling confidence in transacting with TrustSg-accredited merchants.
