NTT Com and IBM Japan to Offer Unified Messaging Solutions

Unified Messaging Solution

NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) and IBM Japan are developing unified messaging solutions for sale in Japan starting this October.

The solutions will connect NTT Com's enterprise IP-based enterprise PBX service, .Phone IP Centrex, with IBM's unified messaging systems built on IBM's Lotus Notes groupware/collaboration platform.

NTT Com services for virtual LAN (e-VLAN), IP private networks (Arcstar IP-VPN) and data communications (OCN) also will be adapted for connection to unified messaging systems built on Lotus Notes.

Corporate customers will use the solutions to efficiently integrate the management of e-mail, voice messaging and fax communications in a single system. The solutions are IP-based, so system construction is quick and inexpensive. Also, since the systems are integrated, users will only have to deal with one service provider - NTT Com.

Calls between .Phone IP Centrex users are free and outside calls are billed by NTT Com at reduced rates, so savings on phone bills will approach 50 percent in some cases.

Unified messaging enables users to better serve their own customers by routing their calls to the best person/department and allowing them to leave messages when they call after hours. Employees can also use voice messaging for more efficient internal communications.
