Transpacific Service Provides Data Backup for Disaster Recovery

NTT Communications (NTT Com) has launched a transpacific solution to help corporations with data backup in the case of server failure due to natural disasters.

Unlike conventional services, which typically use only domestic facilities, NTT Com’s service uses centers in Japan and the USA, to ensure continuity in the case of virtually any disaster.

The service is ideal for corporations both in Japan and the USA, because data in servers hosted/housed at a Tokyo data center are backed up in a U.S. data center, or vice versa, depending on the customer’s needs.

Under the optional Remote Data Backup plan, data is stored to tape or disk at scheduled intervals. Alternatively, customers can select the Data Replication Plan, which backs up data on a constant basis. Both Plans ensure that a backup is always available if the data in a main server fails due to disaster.

Within the year, NTT Com plans to add a cluster service that backs up applications as well as data. Under this plan, the backup server can replace a failed main server on an emergency basis, providing corporations with an extra measure of stability in the event of a disaster.

The data centers in Japan and the USA. are connected via an NTT/VERIO global leased circuit and use BS7799, the world’s most widely recognized security standard.
