NTT Communications (NTT Com) and KT Corporation of the Republic of Korea (ROK) have agreed to a business tie-up in the field of wireless LANs, beginning with joint field tests of international roaming services from December 2003 to March 2004.
Various wireless LAN commercial opportunities will be developed under the alliance between leading wireless LAN service providers. In particular, subscribers traveling between the ROK and Japan will enjoy the convenience of widely available borderless wireless Internet connections. The demand for such services is being boosted by increasing business and leisure travel between the two countries.
Subscribers to NTT Com's "Hotspot" wireless LAN service will be able to access KT's "Netspot" wireless LAN service for high-speed Internet connection while traveling in the ROK. At the same time, KT's Netspot subscribers traveling in Japan will enjoy the same convenience with NTT Com's Hotspot service.
NTT Com currently has some 600 Hotspot sites, and KT operates about 11,000.
