NTT Communications (NTT Com) expanded coverage of its IPv6 Gateway Service in June to include Australia, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan and the U.S. Previously, the service was offered only to ISPs, corporate users and research centers in Japan, Malaysia and Europe.
IPv6 Gateway was launched in April 2002 as Japan's first commercial pay-based IPv6 service. It provides direct connection to the NTT/VERIO Global IPv6 Backbone, offering IPv6 Internet access by transmitting specifically IPv6 packets on leased circuits.
NTT Com has been playing a leading role in enhancing the quality and convenience of IPv6 connectivity. In September 1999, the company obtained management custodianship of official IPv6 addresses to become the first commercial provider in Japan. This move was followed by introduction of the NTT/VERIO Global IPv6 Backbone operated jointly by NTT Com and Verio that spans Japan, Europe and the U.S. After its successful launch in Japan and Malaysia, the IPv6 Gateway Service was introduced to Europe in February 2003 by NTT Europe.
Expansion of IPv6 Gateway to include the U.S., Australia and other Asian
countries will enable ISPs to provide high quality IPv6 service in local areas, making it possible for corporate users and research centers to conduct global R&D. |
