NTT Com and Asian Carriers Reinforce Disaster Recovery Measures

Arcstar Asia Forum in Tokyo

Arcstar Partners—a consortium of 11 major Asian telecom carriers, including NTT Communications (NTT Com), providing Arcstar Global Network Services—agreed to strengthen disaster recovery measures at their annual forum held April 10-12 2002 in Tokyo.

Based on case studies of emergency procedures taken after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the U.S., the partners agreed to create:
•An escalation system in preparation for crises and long-term network failure
•A hotline linking network operations personnel of all carriers
•A website offering the latest information on crisis management and network restoration
•A manual on handling large-scale disasters and long-term network failure

While promoting these measures, NTT Com is playing a leading role in enhancing network security with the launch of Global Customer Network Centers based in Tokyo, New York and London. Secure back-up service is ensured by completely multiplexing the entire global network. In addition, Japan-U.S. global mirroring services, international exchange network support and satellite connection service packages further reinforce disaster preparedness.
