NTT Communications (NTT Com) and asponline Pte Ltd, an IT services and solutions provider in Singapore, agreed on March 14, 2002 to launch NTT Com's ".com Master" program for the certification of Internet skills in Singapore.
A special study course was launched in May to help people prepare for the exam, which will be held on July 7. The course was the first Japan-Singapore joint effort approved under the Infocomm Training Framework (ITF), an IT education program managed by the Singapore government's Infocomm Development Authority (IDA).
The Singapore government has enthusiastically promoted the Internet by offering citizens ITF training programs conducted by the IDA. Considering Singapore's advanced level of Internet promotion, as well as its status as an Asian hub, NTT Com chose the country as the stepping stone to the introduction of the ".com Master" program around Asia.
The exam will cover a variety of Internet skills, including setup of PCs, mail readers, browsers and other applications, content development, homepage creation, construction of servers for email, websites and domains, security issues, router setup and more. Successful examinees will receive an official certificate proclaiming them ".com Master."
Asponline was placed in charge of creating and administering local versions of the training program and exam. Singapore Polytechnic, an educational institution, will audit the quality of the program and provide technical support.
Against the background of the rapidly growing demand for IT skills, the ".com Master" program not only helps people to upgrade their Internet skills, it also provides multinational companies with a standardized method of evaluating the IT abilities of job candidates.
By eventually expanding the exam throughout Asia, NTT Com hopes to raise the skills of IT personnel, help companies reduce their staffing and training costs and further expand Asia's IT market. |
