"Japan is facing very difficult times. In the last two years, the IT industry has been faced with dramatic changes without parallel in the history of the industrial world. The trend continues. Landline to wireless; the Internet; bubble to crash; and now broadband. 'Revolution' would be a suitable word for the changes to business models and lifestyles.
"Our pillars of business development are to become a company that can offer global services, focus on Internet-based services and enhance our brand name by striving to gain first-rate assessment regarding customer reliance and service quality.
"We are truly a multinational company, with 8,200 staff in Japan, 2,300 in the U.S., 400 elsewhere in Asia and 200 in Europe. We are promoting a wide range of business activities, from network services to data centers, and setup of our global service system is reaching completion.
"At NTT Communications we have been striving to achieve a change in corporate culture. My efforts to shake off the culture and values of the old large enterprise, and substitute a new culture appropriate for a 'Global IP Company,' will not lessen." |
