NTT Communications (NTT Com) announced on October 9 that it will enhance its Smart Content Delivery Service with a group of globally dispersed cache servers.
Reverse proxy cache servers will be deployed on the NTT/VERIO Global IP Network in Japan, the U.S. and Europe. Content will be delivered from the cache server nearest each end-user via the NTT/VERIO Tier 1 network.
The service is compatible with a variety of protocols, including HTTP for static content and Windows MediaTM, RealTM and QuickTimeTM for streamed content.
Launched in April 2000, the service uses load-balancing technology to manage user access during peaks. The original service configuration required users to set up their own servers for global content delivery, but the new cache servers will eliminate this need. |
