NTT Com's High Speed network and SI Add to FIFA World CupTM success

Site introducing NTT Com's contributions to the FIFA World CupTM

The 2002 FIFA World CupTM was a great success. NTT Communications (NTT Com), as an official partner, supported through design and implementation of a network infrastructure to enable fast transfer of staff communications and of administration software and data, from design to construction, management and maintenance.

This consisted of an ATM network connected to international leased circuits, linking 10 stadiums in Japan with the International Media Center (IMC) in Yokohama, which was managed by NTT Com's data center housing and in turn linked to the South Korean network. One characteristic of the network was its ability to shut down ATM paths linked to stadia after their last match without affecting the ATM network itself. To achieve this, NTT Com took care to manage the complicated schedule so as to not interrupt the ATM network.

It was the first time in FIFA World CupTM history that a combined data/voice network had been used. Installation of optical-fiber and metal cables enabled data and voice transmission at 100Mbps –1Gbps.
