NTT Australia IP Debuts

Davnet Telecommunications Pty Ltd (Davtel), a Sydney-based provider of IP telecommunications and data services, became a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTT Communications (NTT Com) and was renamed NTT Australia IP Pty Ltd (NTT Aust IP) on January 31.

NTT Com first acquired a 49% stake in Davtel in December 1999 and helped run the company with Davnet Limited (Davnet). NTT Australia, another NTT Com subsidiary, completed the recent deal by acquiring Davtel's remaining 51% from Davnet.

NTT Aust IP offers integrated and scalable data services delivered through in-building broadband communications networks that it owns and/or operates. In addition to high-speed Internet access, it provides global products such as Internet-protocol virtual private networks and hosting, including co-location facilities, under the NTT/Verio brand.

NTT Aust IP's main customers are large and medium-sized businesses located in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Its domestic IP services are expected to realize a strong synergy in combination with NTT Australia's global IP backbone services.
