ATM Megalink

This is a high-speed ATM leased line service for flexibly responding to a variety of network needs from 0.5Mbps to up to 135Mbps.

Features & Benefits

ATM Megalink is an ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) leased line service with line speeds available in 1Mbps increments. It enables the efficient and economic provision of private networks and high-capacity LAN connections integrating a variety of information used for transferring everything from data communication to real-time communication such as voice and video at a speed appropriate to the application.

Realization of high-speed transfers by employing ATM circuits

ATM Megalink employs ATM, which sends information by dividing information into 53-byte blocks called "cells." Using this technology makes it possible to allocate bandwidth according to various communication requirements for different transfer speeds, such as data, voice and video.

Guaranteeing bandwidth by employing CBR* as the service category

Communication lines using CBR* as the guaranteed bandwidth service category are optimal for applications with real-time requirements such as voice and video. This contributes to the creation of integrated networks such as Intranet, PBX and video communication.
* CBR (Constant Bit Rate): A service category guaranteeing the maximum speed of the contracted bandwidth

A broad access menu enabling the optimal speed to be set flexibly

Line speeds of 0.5Mbps, 1Mbps-135Mbps (in 1 Mbps increments) can be selected. Speeds can be set flexibly upon subscription to suit customers’ systems. Furthermore, it is also possible for users to choose their access service provider from NTT Communications, NTT East/West or electric power companies.

There are three service classes enabling the selection of backup functions, etc.

Backup functions for outages can be selected from three service classes (Dual Class, Extra Class, Single Class). The highest grade Dual Class guarantees the subscribed speed through automatic line switching at times of outages.

The access segment type can be selected

Either a 1-wire system or 2-wire system can be selected according to the customer’s system configuration and the terminal interface type, etc. used. ONUs are installed in 1-wire systems and DSUs are installed in 2-wire systems.

Greatly reduced running costs through fixed-rate pricing

The service utilizes a fixed-rate pricing model in which monthly communication charges are fixed regardless of the time used and the volume of data sent. The cost per unit of time becomes lower the more a line is used, with no concerns about additional charges due to traffic fluctuations or increased usage time.

Solid network security

As it is a closed network in which the customer has sole possession of equipment, there are no concerns about information leaks due to hacking, etc. It is possible to reduce equipment implementation costs and movements because security measures such as firewalls and encryption are generally not necessary.

Reduced effort for line maintenance and operation on the customer side

Customers’ equipment such as servers are installed within NTT Communications’ building*. This can be used as a "colocation service" directly linking our backbone with customers’ equipment. NTT Communications is responsible for line maintenance and operation.
* Limited to buildings specified by NTT Communications for providing colocation services.
