NTT Com and Microsoft Co., Ltd. to Partner in Leading-edge new Hybrid Cloud Service

TOKYO, JAPAN - NTT Communications (NTT Com) announced that it has agreed with Microsoft Co., Ltd. to combine NTT Com’s Biz Hosting Enterprise, a cloud-based hosting service, with Microsoft’s Windows Azure Platform™ to provide customers with highly reliable, secure and flexible ICT resources at low cost, for offering hybrid cloud computing service. Customers also will be able to combine their own on-premises servers with private cloud (Biz Hosting Enterprise) and public cloud (Windows Azure Platform) solutions to roughly halve the costs of on-premises-only systems.

NTT Com will accept applications from December for a trial service to begin between January and March 2011.

NTT Com’s current Biz Hosting Enterprise cloud solution enables enterprise customers to leverage the cloud via NTT Com’s network services using highly reliable Tier-lll data centers with robust security.

Microsoft’s Windows Azure Platform offers computing resources via its data centers worldwide. Combining the Windows Azure cloud based operating system and the SQL Azure™ cloud based relational database, the platform enables customers to use computing resources on demand, as well as seamlessly incorporate the cloud with conventional on-premises servers and software.

Microsoft Co., Ltd. has been providing NTT Com with development support and a trial environment since the Windows Azure Platform launched last February.

The primary features of the new hybrid cloud service are as follows:

1. NTT Com will construct and provide a secure, reliable private cloud platform with support from Microsoft, using virtualization technology such as Hyper-V? on Biz Hosting Enterprise?s Windows Server® 2008 R2, which is provided via robust data centers in Japan. Mission-critical applications and popular services, such as Exchange Server and SharePoint® Server, can be transplanted to this new platform.

2. Single sign-on verification and secure access will be possible between cloud services, such as Biz Hosting Enterprise, Windows Azure Platform and Microsoft Online Services including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online and Lync? Online. Enterprise customers can flexibly select each cloud service according to specific operational needs.

3. Biz Hosting Enterprise will offer seamless management of on-premises servers, Windows Azure Platform and other cloud platforms which enables customers one-stop management for service monitoring, configuration and modification.

NTT Com and Microsoft intend to enhance their solution with features that will be added periodically to the Windows Azure Platform. They also are considering expanding the service with the seamless addition of Microsoft Online Servers.

New Biz Hosting Enterprise will be demonstrated during the NTT Communications Forum 2010 at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo on October 28 and 29, and also during Cloud Computing Expo Japan at Makuhari Messe, Chiba Prefecture between October 10 and 12.
