NTT Com to Launch Global Virtual Hosting

NTT Communications (NTT Com) announced today Biz Hosting Global, a virtual hosting service with globally unified virtualization features, which will be launched through premium data centers in the United States, Europe and Hong Kong from January 2010 and in Singapore at a later date.

The service will be provided under NTT Com’s BizCITY® concept of providing secure access to enterprise services from anyplace at anytime.

Companies are increasingly turning to hosting services that utilize virtualization technology to enable servers with different functionality, such as web and e-mail, to work on a single physical server, and thereby reduce the number of physical servers and total cost of ownership. For many multinational companies, however, latency issues can occur when servers scattered across various countries are consolidate in one place. Managing dissimilar operating conditions and technical specifications in each country also are potential problems.

NTT Com’s new virtualization service will respond to the growing number of multinationals that are demanding centralized hosting offering one-stop management, support and billing. The advantages of the new global hosting service include:

1. Rapid deployment and minimum up-front costs: Customers can outsource server design, installation and operation to NTT Com to rapidly launch operations across multiple overseas locations. Up-front costs are low due to minimum costs of acquisition.

2. Efficient, flexible control of resources: Taking advantage of premium data centers that are connected by NTT Com’s high-quality global network, the service enables customers to use resources effectively by flexibly increasing/decreasing server resources for greater cost effectiveness.

3. One-stop monitoring and operation via a portal site allows customers to confirm virtual server status, as well as turn virtual servers on/off, for more efficient operation.

4. Integration services to combine business applications such as e-mail, web and groupware, taking full advantage of the benefits of virtualization.

Initial costs and monthly charges will vary according to each customer’s specific requirements.

Biz Hosting Global will be available in four different service bundles, named Fundamental, Enhanced, Premium and Stand Alone. Fundamental, Enhanced and Premium bundles will support server hardware redundancy and offer external storage accessible via a storage area network. Stand Alone will offer internal storage. The bundles will feature different combinations of CPU and memory specifications.

Along with its two hosting services currently available in Japan - the network-integrated, low-cost Biz Hosting Basic and the high-grade Biz Hosting Enterprise with dedicated server operations - NTT Com will now offer Biz Hosting Global to meet the hosting needs of multinational companies in major markets worldwide.

Biz Hosting Global will be demonstrated at the NTT Communications Forum 2009, which will take place at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo on October 29 and 30. Admission is free but advanced registration is required at www.ntt.com/forum (in Japanese only).
