NTT Com to Combine Mobile Data & WLAN for Business Users

TOKYO, JAPAN - NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) announced today that it is now accepting applications for "HOTSPOT™ Business 3G," a new wireless access service for corporate customers that combines 3G mobile access via sister company NTT DOCOMO’s FOMA™ mobile network in Japan and Wi-Fi access via NTT Com’s HOTSPOT public wireless local area network (WLAN) and related WLAN connection points both in Japan and overseas. Service will begin in September.

Mobile data communication at speeds up to 7.2 Mbps will be possible in DOCOMO’s FOMA™ HIGH-SPEED mobile service areas covering much of Japan. HOTSPOT Business 3G users will be able to connect to the Internet and their own corporate network via Internet virtual private networks (VPNs). Customers will also be able to connect to all HOTSPOT access points, including Standard Area, Express Area, Domestic Roaming Service Areas in Japan, and Oversea Roaming Service Areas offered by partner providers in more than 150 countries.

Access in Japan will cost a flat monthly rate of 4,980 yen (tax included) per user account. Separate per-minute or per-day charges will apply for access overseas.

For the first 50 companies that sign up, NTT Com will waive their first monthly charge, the initial signup fee costing up to 3,600 yen (tax included) per user account, and half of the normal 12,600 yen (tax included) price of a wireless data card purchase from NTT Com.
