<Information> NTT Com’s Internet-Skills Test Earns IPv6 Accreditation

TOKYO, JAPAN - NTT Communications (NTT Com) announced today that one of its ".com (dot com) Master" Internet-skills tests in Japan has been accredited by the IPv6 Promotion Council and the Japan Approvals Institute for Telecommunications Equipment (JATE) as a "v6-qualified Test" of IPv6-related skills.

The .com Master series comprises four levels of tests, beginning with .com Master BASIC and then graduating to single-, double- and triple-star versions. The newly accredited test is the 2010 edition of .com Master ★★ ("double star"), which certifies skills needed to create relatively small, always-connected Internet environments, provide users with simple applications-based services, or instruct others about these skills.

The IPv6 Promotion Council and JATE issue IPv6 accreditations in five categories: system administrators, designers, installers, operator/monitors and creators. The government-recognized "v6-qualified Test" accreditation earned by NTT Com this time applies to administrators.

The 2009 edition of .com Master ★★★("triple star"), which received accreditation last year in the administrator, designer, installer and operator/monitor categories, was the first "v6-qualified Test" ever accredited by the IPv6 Promotion Council and JATE.

NTT Com’s .com Master tests are widely recognized certifications of skills that are required to use the Internet effectively in daily life and the workplace. Administered independently of specific manufacturers and software, the tests enable people to accurately monitor their skill development while allowing employers to uniformly rate such skills among existing employees and prospective hires.

With the World Wide Web expected to run out of IPv4 addresses as early as 2011, there is an urgent need to transition to IPv6 and its virtually unlimited number of addresses. The .com Master program is an important initiative being taken by NTT Com to help nurture network engineers who can support the smooth transition of networks from IPv4 to IPv6.
