NTT Com’s "Biz Hosting Enterprise" Adds New Features

NTT Communications (NTT Com) announced that it starts offering today Biz Hosting Enterprise, a cloud-based hosting service renamed from the conventional Green Hosting Enterprise with additional new features in Japan, offered under NTT Com’s BizCITY® concept of providing secure access to enterprise services from anyplace at anytime.

The new Biz Hosting Enterprise is offered with reliable and robust data centers enabling a Tier 3 or higher ranking by The Uptime Institute, stable communication facilities and high-quality security services as well as the latest server virtualization technologies developed through about 10 years of expertise in the hosting business field. The new service will enhance customers’ sustainable growth and flexibly meet customers’ short-term needs, such as a redundantly designed Internet access environment at low cost, while expanding their business on electronic commerce sites or temporarily adding hardware in accordance with peak access demand times by introducing new features to virtually provide security and load balancing.

Additional new features include vFirewall (vFW) service, a virtual firewall offered by assigning necessary resources to virtual dedicated firewall devices that limit access from third parties via external networks such as the Internet, and vLoad Balancer (vLB) service, a virtual dedicated load balancing offered by assigning necessary resources to virtual dedicated load balancing devices that manage access demands from external networks to web servers and distribute them across other functionally-equal servers.

A resource of both services are offered on specific traffic performance and a number of concurrent sessions basis to flexibly respond customer’s needs. Temporary additions of resources are available so that it can eliminate up-front costs. Both services are compatible with Active/Standby failover to automatically take over the functions of a failed unit. Other features of both services include the lower cost of a dedicated network device, capability of monitoring access status via the customers’ portal site, and connection capability not only to the Internet but also to NTT Com’s e-VLAN as well as virtual networks such as Arcstar™ IP-VPN and Group-VPN.

One important new feature of Biz Hosting Enterprise is Virtual Machine. Conventionally, one server device is physically limited to the use of only one operating system. However, through the use of software, the resources of a server device (CPU or memory) can be divided into multiples, and it is possible to install different operating systems into each, turning each one into a virtual machine. This is available as a service, and the monthly usage fee for each "virtual machine" is 35,100 yen.

The Biz Hosting Enterprise costs 1,750,000 yen initially and 756,000 yen per month. The service includes up to 10 Mbps Internet connection, 16 virtual servers with 1-terabyte storage, a resource of each vFW and vLB service, an account for remote SSL-VPN access and DNS service as well as offering system hardware maintenance, 24/7 trouble support by phone or email, technical help from 10:00 to 17:00 weekdays, information such as status check and trouble report, and configuration edits of specific monthly operations.

NTT Com has also renamed its Green Hosting Basic, a low-cost and network integrated virtual hosting service, and Green Storage, a large-capacity storage service via network, to Biz Hosting Basic and Biz Storage respectively, intending to integrate its cloud-based services that utilize virtualization technology under the BizCITY concept.

Biz Hosting Enterprise will be demonstrated at the NTT Communications Forum 2009, which will take place at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo on October 29 and 30. Admission is free but advanced registration is required at www.ntt.com/forum (Japanese only).
