NTT Com to Launch Robust Cloud-based Email for Enterprises

TOKYO, JAPAN - NTT Communications (NTT Com) announced today the coming launch of a highly secure, large-capacity cloud-based email service, named Secure ICT Biz Mail (Biz Mail), on October 1.

The new service will be the latest offering under NTT Com’s BizCITY® concept of providing secure enterprise services on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) basis for global access anyplace, anytime.

As the technological capabilities of Internet-based cloud-computing services progress, both system managers and end users are increasingly demanding secure, practical solutions for safely accessing, using and storing email via the Internet. Biz Mail answers these needs by offering security equal to that of conventional corporate email systems, backed by Japanese-quality operation and user support. Collaboration capabilities greatly extend the system’s functionality and versatility, and storage of up to 10GB per ID is available from just 600 yen/month (please see attachment for details).

Security and support

The system adapts flexibly to the customer’s security policies. If a mail server is storing confidential data, for example, the system manager can block all access not made through the corporate intranet. In addition to virus checking and junk mail filtering, a portal enables the manager to monitor system status and add/change accounts. On-call support is provided 24/7 and the system informs users if and why mail is undeliverable.

Large storage

Robust storage of up to 10GB per ID is available for special needs, while many users will find that the 2GB option is sufficient for general purposes. Although data access is completely seamless for users, NTT Com’s virtual distributed storage technology enables the use of multiple servers for system optimization, a key reason why the system is so cost effective.

Extended functionality

Biz Mail offers features similar to those found in popular mail software, such as Microsoft Outlook®. Mashups combining different content and applications can extend email functionality, such as enabling a cursor pointed at an address in an email header to display information from the address book, or show a to-do list when pointed at a date on a calendar. Extended functionality is also possible for calendar, briefcase and documentation tools. Interfaces are available in 16 different languages, and for both mobile phones and smartphones.

Links to corporate systems

Biz Mail links with conventional corporate account-management systems, providing end users with convenient flexibility while reducing the system manager’s burden of ID management. Email accounts, address books in conventional corporate systems can be reflected in Biz Mail. Direct access to customer servers is also possible.

NTT Com will exhibit Biz Mail at the NTT Communications Forum 2009, which will take place at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo on October 29 and 30. Admission is free but advanced registration is required. www.ntt.com/forum

Going forward, NTT Com expects to strengthen Secure ICT with enhanced portal functions for managers to monitor system status, change accounts, etc., and develop SaaS/cloud services to be visualized so that the problems can be identified and brought to the foreground.
